The highest court in the south German state of Hesse upheld a hijab ban for all state employees which became law in 2004, press reports said Monday. The hijbab ban does not violate constitutional rights, the high court found. According to the controversial law, state employees in Hesse are barred from wearing pieces of clothes which “endanger political peace.” Several German states have adopted tough anti-hijab laws which many Muslims view as a violation of their constitutional right to exercise religious freedom.
