Europe: European Parliament says ‘No’ to anti-Islam film Fitna

The European Parliament has banned the screening of the anti-Islam film Fitna on its premises, arguing that the film incites hatred. The film’s maker, Geert Wilders has reacted angrily saying that it was a sad day for democracy. The screening of Fitna was to have taken place in a conference room where Wilders also announced the intention of his party to run for seats in the European parliament in the 2009 elections. During the meeting, the screens were lowered from the ceiling and unfolded, but the apparatus was soon withdrawn – and the film was not allowed to be presented.
