Dutch job market discriminates against non-Western applicants

Applicants with an ethnic minority background are less likely than native Dutch to be granted job interviews, according to a study released by the Netherlands Institute for Social Research. Dutch News reports the results of the study, which used fictitious candidates with different names to conduct the investigation. The discrepancy in interviewing increased with lower skilled positions. In addition, men were more likely than women to face discrimination and the hospitality trade and retail industry were least likely to interview potential new recruits with foreign origins.
