Catholic Church Condemns Charlie Hebdo Attack
“The Bishops’ Conference of France wishes to express its deepest sentiment and horror in reaction to the attack at the offices of Charlie Hebdo. As of now there are twelve people who were killed in the organized attack, as well as several others that are currently in critical condition. The Catholic Church of France sends its condolences to the families and friends of the victims who face this incomprehensible horror. It also extends its great sympathy to the Charlie Hebdo team. Such terror is unspeakable. Nothing can justify such violence. It strongly affects the freedom of expression, a fundamental element of our society. This society, which is extremely diverse, must continuously work to build peace and brotherhood. The barbarity shown in this attack hurts us all. In such a situation where anger may overwhelm us, more than ever we must pay special attention to the weakened brotherhood and work to strengthen peace.”

We should never let men be so shamefully murdered without reacting or reminding that all human life is precious in the eyes of God, and we affirm that there is no justification for putting one religion’s value above another’s.
We reaffirm that the secular Republic and its values, notably freedom of belief, democracy and freedom of the press remain for us the foundation of our ability to live together peacefully.”
