CFCM president calls on Muslims to use education to fight Islamophobia

In an interview with Le Figaro, the new president of the French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM), Anouar Kbibech, called on French Muslims to be more open with non- Muslims and to use education about Islam to fight Islamophobia.

Dalil Boubakeur’s successor, who condemned the attack in Thalys, did not hide his fears concerning the perpetrator’s links to radical Islam. Kbibech fears “stigmatization against French citizens of the Muslim faith.”

Following the train attack, Muslims in Auch discovered their mosque was destroyed by an arson attack. Faced with such Islamophobia, Kbibech explained that politicians have a responsibility, “when they discuss…an alleged third world war…this contributes to an anti-Muslim climate.”

“The Muslims of France also need to educate. To prevent amalgamations, they must educate others about Islam’s true values. It’s in the soil of ignorance that violence thrives. We must inform and explain what Islam is.”
