With demand for Hajj increasing, Saudi Arabia has had to adapt the infrastructure of the pilgrimage, and faces further challenges in terms of regulating the Hajj tour-operating industry which operates worldwide.
In her May National Geographic article, Leila Fadel details her visits to different Muslim communities throughout the U.S. The article is part of the Diversity in America series, which covers racial, ethnic, and religious groups, and examines their changing roles in 21st century life.
The report, entitled ‘Counter-terrorism in the NHS’, found that a number of NHS staff are unaware of how to implement the Prevent initiative, corresponding with findings by the BMJ, and adds to already well-established concerns about the counter-terrorism programme.
The columnist and gender activist, Mona Eltahawy, started the #MosqueMeToo movement to encourage women to share their experiences of sexual harassment and assault on the hajj and in other Islamic spaces. The movement opens the #MeToo movement up to Muslim women.
