Proposal from Muslim organizations, Association for the Development and Emancipation of Muslims, to seek Muslims religious vacation days

A proposal by several Muslim organizations in Belgium has been made to allow Muslims to take religious vacation days. Under the proposal, a Muslim employee would be allowed to choose from a number of holidays to take throughout the year. The proposal came from distress during the past Eid holiday, in which many Muslim works could not always take the day off. Youssed Souissi from the Association for the Development and Emancipation of Muslims said: “We simply want that Muslims could have their holidays without the fuss of doctor’s certificates, family leave or tolerated absences.” Souissi added that many companies simply underestimate the importance of such holidays and allowing employees to take an absence on these days.
