City of Plymouth gets £100,000 to tackle terrorism

City chiefs have been handed just under £100,000 by the Government to help tackle future terrorist threats to the city. Plymouth City Council made a bid for money from the Preventing Violent Extremism Pathfinder Fund, which aims to “support priority local authorities in their work to tackle violent extremism in their communities”. A spokesman for the council revealed it had been successful in its bid to the Home Office for £93,000 made available as part of the Government’s counter terrorism “Prevent Strategy”. The spokesman said: “This money will be used to continue and expand our current efforts aimed at identifying vulnerable individuals who may be susceptible to radicalisation, tackling underlying social problems and tensions in neighbourhoods and tackling disruptive elements. “Specific projects will include training key people working out in the community to identify and respond to signs of extremism.”
