Greece: Protests in Athens against police treatment of immigrants
Hundreds of people protested in central Athens regarding the treatment of immigrants by Greek police, following the recent deaths of two South-Asians near a police office. Protest organizers said that a 24-year old Bangladeshi man died when he fell in a ravine after a scuffle near an immigrant police station on January 3rd. His death followed the death of a Pakistani man in the same spot, while a third man was found injured there as well. Greek police deny involvement in the incidents. The police office where all three were discovered is the site where hundreds of immigrants gather every Friday evening to register requests for asylum in Greece.
