CFCM leader condemns attacks on French Jews; Fadela Amara organizes meeting

Mohamed Moussaoui, President of the French Council for the Muslim Faith (CFCM), voiced his opposition to attacks on French Jews, their properties or synagogues. He told IslamOnline.net that, “We are still waiting for the results of investigations into these attacks, but if the perpetrators turn out to be Muslims they must understand that showing solidarity with Gaza cannot be through attacking French citizens irrespective of their religion.”

In the last three weeks the Protection Service of the Jewish Community (SPCJ or the Service de Protection de la Communauté Juive) registered 55 violent acts or threats; in all of 2008 they counted 261.

Urban Affairs Minister Fadela Amara organized on Monday a meeting of Jewish and Arab groups to appease tensions in Paris’s ethnically-mixed neighborhoods. Participants agreed to draft a common appeal urging Jews and Arabs to “live together” in peace.
