Inter-Muslim dispute led to beating, claims Vancouver ball-hockey player

Ahmed Bukhs claims his son, Izaiah, 20, who suffered slashes to the body and head during a ball-hockey tournament did so because of his Islamic-minority status. Izaiah lost part of a tooth, and when he approached one of two referees, Mr. Bukhs said, Sunni players and some Sunni members of the audience swarmed him and his brother because they are non-sectarian Muslims. Members of the B.C. Muslim Sports Association claim the hockey melee was “a simple fight.” Association President Bashir Patel agreed that more than 20 young men participated, but denied accusations the riot was sparked by religious discrimination.
