Islamic religion teacher in Brussels disputes Nazi camp survivor testimony

Belgian officials lodged a legal complaint against an Islamic religion teacher in Brussels, who is accused of denying the Holocaust. The community’s education minister made the accusation after the teacher voiced skepticism following a talk at public school by a concentration camp survivor. “For the first time someone told me that my story was greatly exaggerated,” Henri Kichka, an 83 year-old former inmate at the Auschwitz and Buchenwald death camps, told the Le Soir newspaper. The education minister said that he was shocked by the “totally unacceptable” comments by the religion teacher. The teacher’s comments were captured on video, during a taping of the event.

The Muslim Executive of Belgium spoke of imposing sanctions on the teacher, saying that “our teachers must act in accordance with the constitution and the law.”
