Some Guantanamo prisoners could be released in US

According to Attorney General Eric Holder, some of the Guantanamo Bay prisoners could be released into the United States, while others could be put on trial in the American court system. Holder, who was chosen by president Barack Obama to lead the administration’s efforts to close the US military prison in Guantanamo Bay in Cuba within a year, said that a review of what to do with each of the prisoners is now beginning to be considered. Holder said that it was possible that 17 Chinese Muslims who have been held at Guantanamo for years could be freed in the United States. For “people who can be released there are a variety of options that we have and among them is the possibility is that we would release them into this country,” Mr. Holder said. “That process is ongoing and we’ve not made any determinations or made any requests of anybody at this point.”
