Girls get together for Islamic Sports Day in London
Women and girls from across the country celebrated Islamic culture through a national sports competition in London on Saturday. The Girls Eid cup festival, organised by Leyton Orient Community Sports Programme (LOCSP) and Positive Futures, aims to give young women from across the country a chance to meet in an environment outside their normal everyday lives. Sab Bham, director of community engagement at LOCSP, said: “Since September 11 and the July bombings in London it’s been flagged up that people from Britain have been involved in terrorism. Through Positive Futures we are trying to promote a positive image of Islam. The girls can take part and celebrate a vibrant culture that’s a big part of Britain today.”
