Government to fight foreign influences in mosques

The Dutch cabinet will make it more difficult for lenders to obtain influence in Dutch mosques. According to the minister of internal affairs, Guusje ter Horst, international foundations must be more transparent about their finances, and the cabinet will make a law proposal for the regulation of international funds used on mosques in the Netherlands. Parliament asked Ter Horst to study the level of danger from foreign persons or institutions who put their money into local mosques – fearing that some funding is used to work directly against integration, and towards advancing radicalization. However, Ter Horst stated that he acknowledged a balance must be reached – without overestimating such influences, noting that some international financing is done in the name of charity, without agenda.
