The Canadian Arab Federation takes citizenship and immigration Minister to court

The Canadian Arab Federation is taking Citizenship and Immigration Minister Jason Kenney to court over his decision to stop funding the group’s language-training programs for newcomers to Canada. Kenney’s department decided to end its contacts with the federation, worth nearly $2-million over two years, after its president Khaled Mouammar called the Minister “a professional whore” for his support of Israel.

The Toronto-based organization was told that the “objectionable nature of public statements made by CAF members” led to the loss of funding, according to documents filed in Federal Court in Toronto. The federation is asking for an order quashing the decision and has applied for an injunction to keep the funding coming while the case is heard.
