Islam & Politics – New Weekly Journal

The Social Democrats’ religious organisation – the Brotherhood movement – announced Thursday August 12, that they are launching a journal entitled Islam & Politics which, to begin with, will be published once a week until the national election coming up September 19.
In a press release the Brotherhood movement states:
Islam & Politics is a magazine for progressive and red/green [social democratic and environmentalist] Muslims, published by the Brotherhood movement’s network of Muslim Social Democrats. The Brotherhood Movement – Sweden’s Christian Social Democrats was founded in Örebro in the 1920s. Many Christians felt they were met with suspicion in the labour movement for being Christians, and contested in their churches for being socialists. The result was a progressive political organization that, ever since, has been fighting for peace, solidarity and justice. For us as Muslim socialists, this is also our fight.
Since the mid-90s, more and more Muslims get involved in the Brotherhood Movement. Since 2007, we have a formal network and it is we who have taken the initiative to the new magazine. This is the first issue, and we hope it will become a subscribed magazine in the future.
