Muslim convert accuses denial of naturalisation based upon religion

A Belgian-born Italian woman who has converted to Islam accuses the state of having denied her Belgian citizenship on the grounds of her religious conversion. The young women from Monceau-sur-Sambre, who is married to a Belgium and has four children who are all Belgian citizens, has continuously lived in the country as an Italian citizen . Despite her Belgian upbringing and family, her application for naturalisation was however rejected. A note she received stating the reasons for such a rejection cites ‘severe problems in regards to integration and the association with another culture’. She is described as someone who ‘does not want to be part of our community. Even if she was born here and has always lived in Belgium, she has rejected our way of living and adopted the lifestyle of her husband’.
