Imad Eddin Barakat Yarkas, alias Abu Dahdah will leave prison within six months, according to his prison record. The Syrian is accused of leading the Al Qaeda cell in Spain, and he was arrested in 2001, just two months after the attacks of 09/11 for which he was sentenced to 27 years in prision. It was later acquitted by the Supreme Court, although keeping his 12-year sentence for leading a terrorist organization.
Previously, the sentence of the Court, found that ‘Abu Dahdah was aware of the preparation and organization of the 09/11. Moreover, that he had recruited and sent individuals to mujahideen training camps; that he was commissioned to seek financial assistance for mujahideen worldwide and had established “strong ties” with people from the organization then headed by Osama Ben Laden. The new sentence although establishing Abu Dahdah as the Al-Qaeda leader in Spain, has determined that his connection and knowledge of the 09/11 terrorist attacks had insufficient evidences.
