German scholars of Islamic theology and academics have condemned the terror committed by the Islamic State (IS) during a congress in Cologne. This position would be important, as some young Muslims would be attracted by the rhetoric and action of IS. Terrorists should not be allowed to lead the discourse. Fifty scholars signed a declaration condemning the violence and terror of IS.
Muslim associations condemned the IS terror as well. The speaker of the coordination council of Muslims in Germany, Ali Kizilkaya called all Muslims to condemn the terror of IS. According to Kizilkaya, on September 19th Muslims will follow the campaign: “Muslims against hatred and injustice”. Muslims associations and more than 2000 mosques will be participating in seven German cities: Berlin, Hamburg, Mölln, Bielefeld, Oldenburg, Frankfurt and Stuttgart.
