LOS ANGELES, CA – JULY 25, 2014 – Muslim inmate Malcolm Joseph Moore, 61, participates with fellow Muslim inmates in the Jumu’ah prayer service in the chapel of the Men’s Central Jail during the month of Ramadan Friday afternoon on July 25, 2014. A small crew of deputies at the Men’s Central Jail work to accommodate Muslim inmates during the month of Ramadan, serving them meals before the crack of dawn and making sure they stay healthy until they break their fasts at sunset. This is a change from the past, when the ACLU accused jail officials of denying Muslims Friday prayers, halal food and rugs in their cells so they could comfortably pray five times a day.
