Attack in Isère: politicians’ reactions

Francois Hollande: “Of course there is emotion, but emotion cannot be the only response: it’s action, prevention, dissuasion, never giving into fear, not creating useless divisions, suspicions or intolerance. It’s to do the work Franchmen expect of us, to protect them, establish truth and eradicate responsible groups or individuals and acts.”

Nicolas Sarkozy: “Never will the Republic give in to barbaric terrorism. Its message, its barbaric and bloody staging, the one or more perpetrators of this attack declared war not only on the Republic and democracy, but on civilization. It is our duty to defend ourselves with the greatest determination…We therefore ask the government to formally shed light on the exact and to learn from the latest attack by heightening security once again.”

Alain Juppé: The terror threat is at its height, as alas, the attack in Isère reminds us. The State must do everything it can to protect its citizens.”

Christian Estrosi: “The latest attack confirms the urgent need for an intelligence bill.”

Ségolène Royal: “It’s an abominable attack. My thoughts go out the victims’ families and the factory workers who must be profoundly traumatized.”

Jean-Christophe Cambadélis: “Deep emotion following the attack. Stay united. No amalgamations. Do not play on fear.”

Florian Philippot: “The horror of Islamism, the barbarity of decapitation. Political inaction and emotion, that’s enough! Complete resolution and courage are required.”
