Jerusalem: CFCM and RMF call for prayer and restraint

Following President Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel there was a heightened risk of tension, or even clashes, between the “Jewish and Muslim communities” in France.

The CFCM issued a statement calling for calm and addressing Muslim leaders: “During the Friday prayer, the French Council of the Muslim Faith encourages Muslims to pray to find a peaceful outcome for this city, three times holy, and orders the Muslims of France to avoid the trap of importing the conflict.”

The Muslim Assembly of France (Rassemblement des Musulmans de France, or RMF) issued a reminder of “the spiritual attachment to this city of Muslims throughout the world,” and warned of “a risk of general conflagration,” as “the last hopes of a just and lasting peace in the Middle East collapse.”

RMF president Anouar Kbibech also called for “Muslims of France to pray for peace in the holy city, which carries important symbols for all of the monotheistic religions.”
