Why are US Muslims happier than those in the UK?

When Gallup and the Coexist Foundation published their report on “Muslim Americans: a National Portrait”, it appeared that American Muslims are overall ‘happier’ that their British counterparts: 41 per cent of Muslims in America class themselves as ‘thriving’, i.e. enjoying life to the full, while only 7 per cent of British Muslims do so.

In an article for the Guardian, Zahed Amanullah, an American Muslim living in the UK replies to this disparity. To his mind, the poll misses to distinguish between class differences, e.g. between African-American working class and immigrant professionals. With more professionals entering, the numbers favor the US, while mixing typical immigration problems with Islam on the UK side.
