Daniel Peterson
Daniel Peterson is currently completing his PhD at the Institute for Religion, Politics and Society at Australian Catholic University. Using the blasphemy conviction of former Jakarta governor Ahok as his primary case study, Daniel’s thesis investigates whether or not Indonesia’s broader human rights legal framework can withstand the challenges presented by increasing Islamic neo-Revivalism in that country.
Daniel also works as a research assistant at the Institute, where he is a principal contributor to SHARIAsource, an Islamic legal database initiative of Harvard Law School’s Islamic Legal Studies Program. He is a qualified lawyer, fluent in Indonesian, and is an Associate of the Centre for Indonesian Law, Islam and Society at the University of Melbourne.
