The Senior Citizen Medal Initiative in Germany, which was initiated in 2011 has been engaged to support self-determined lives for senior citizens from all backgrounds and religious beliefs. Prominent ambassadors for the Senior Citizen Medal Initiative Germany include Prof. Adelheid Kuhlmey, Director of the Institute of Medical Sociology at the Charité Hospital in Berlin; Karl Blecha, Minister of the Interior (retired) and President of the Austrian Council of Senior Citizens, and Aiman Mazyek, Chairman of the Central Council of Muslims in Germany (Zentralrat der Muslime in Deutschland -ZMD).
As an initiator for unprejudiced dialog with Muslims, the Senior Citizen Medal Initiative will be awarding former Federal German President Christian Wulff the “Senior Citizen Medal for Outstanding Services”. Aiman Mazyek, Chairman of the Central Council of Muslims in Germany, will present Wulff with the award on 24 June in Berlin. With his phrase ‘Islam belongs to Germany’ the Christian Democratic Party member Christian Wulff referred to a sensitive issue into the public’s focus related to the dialog with Muslims in Germany.
