Tests abroad for family-reunification immigrants is ruled illegal

A court in Amsterdam has ruled that immigrants who come to the country through family reunification, do not have to take a Dutch test showing basic knowledge of Dutch language and culture, in their home countries. In a case brought by a Moroccan woman who wanted to live with her husband in the Netherlands, a judge ruled that her demand was inadmissible by law. The woman’s application for temporary residence was denied, because she had not take the Dutch test in her native Morocco. However, as a result of this recent ruling, the woman can come to the Netherlands to take the test.
