Champagne-Ardenne: Prayer room burned down

Champagne-Ardenne reported that a prayer room, attended by Sid Ahmed Ghlam’s sister and step-brother, who was suspected of planning an attack against one or more churches in Ile-de-France and of having killed Aurelie Chatelain, was completely destroyed by a fire. The prayer room was in a house in Pargny-sur-Saulx.

According to France 3, the fire occurred around 11 pm, “after worshippers left.” The president of the Muslim association of Pargny-sur-Saulx, interviewed by local journalists, affirmed that: “it would be hard for this to be an accident.” Prosecutor Christian de Roquigny announced that an investigation has been opened.

“Preliminary findings appear to confirm a criminal act,” the prosecutor announced. “Tensions exist within the community attending the prayer room,” he added. For the moment, he announced no connection between the fire, most likely a criminal act, and the fact that the sister of Sid Ahmed Ghlamla attended the prayer room. Additional investigations must be conducted.
