Auch Mosque: Catholics support Muslims
Following the attack on the mosque in Auch, the Conference of Bishops in France (CEF) expressed its support for the Muslim community.
The CEF, which represents all French bishops, “firmly” condemns “this cowardly and absurd act which only serves to bring trouble and sow fear.” For the bishops, “such aggressions have no religious justification and fail in their aim to use religion to create division.”
The archbishop of Auch, M. Maurice Gardes expressed similar sentiments, highlighting the need for “solidarity” and “dialogue between religious leaders.”
President Francois Hollande “firmly” condemned the attack, issuing a statement in which he assured that “all is being done so that the perpetrators are identified and punished.” Prime Minister Manuel Valls denounced on Twitter “an attack against our Republican values.”
The mosque has not announced plans for temporary relocation.
