Muslim youth request Obama’s help in fighting extremism

A group of 300 young Muslim activists from 76 countries have asked President Obama to promote policies that can help to peacefully curtail religious extremism. The grassroots movement Muslim Leaders of Tomorrow issued the letter, whose mission is to foster a new generation of civic engagement.

Participants of the request – all between the ages of 20 and 45, included artists, academics, religious leaders, and business owners. The group’s recommendations include asking President Obama and other world leaders to support human rights through youth participation in political and civil society, and a commitment towards mutual respect. “Healthy, well-educated, and engaged citizens are more invested in their societies and are less likely to be swayed by radical ideologies,” the letter states. “The time for change,” the letter concluded, “is now.”
